About Sarah
Sarah Elton is a writer and journalist. She is the food columnist for CBC Radio’s Here&Now and writes regularly for publications across North America including The Globe and Mail, Maclean’s, and The Atlantic‘s Food Channel. Locavore: From Farmers’ Fields to Rooftop Gardens, How Canadians Are Changing the Way We Eat is her first book.
She edited City of Words: Toronto through her writers’ eyes, a collection of Toronto authors writing about the city (Cormorant Books, 2009) and works in documentary film and television. She is also the chair of membership on the board of PEN Canada–and she urges you to join the organization and support freedom of expression! Join here. Everyone is welcome!
Sarah grew up looking for earthworms in her dad’s compost heap, has worked on organic farms, fought the raccoons to grow her own backyard vegetables, and is currently an urban hunter-gatherer, foraging for local foods where she lives in Toronto with her husband and two daughters.
This blog documents her voyage to the front lines of the local food movement.
